Simulation,Embodied Experience, and Technological Imagination:The Media Aesthetics of Virtual Museums
Digital media has established new mediatic relationships between people, exhibits, and spaces. As a new form of art display, virtual museums have brought about changes in the way of perception, aesthetic mechanisms, and aesthetic effects.First,it involves the reorganisation of aesthetic sensory proportions through digital technology.Second,it creates a fully immersive virtual roaming experience through simulation technology, eliminating the aesthetic distance.Third,it constructs virtual subjectivity through interaction and participation, creating an aesthetic experience that is"inhabitable and explorable"and where"objects and the self are all coloured by the self".Virtual museums internalise the essence of technology into new display thinking, breaking the traditional museum's aesthetic paradigm dominated by gazing and static observation, and turning towards the perceptual aesthetic experience and immersive emotional experience brought about by the integration of multiple senses.
