On the Construction Path of"Living"Melody in Nanyin Ballads
The unique gongyi notation system of Nanyin ballads only records the explicit"skeletal tones"and the playing methods of the pipa,while concealing a rich diversity of vocal melodies and the melodies of other instruments.Nanyin singers and players,based on the gongyi notation,form their own singing and accompanying melodies through regular procedural and improvisational integration,based on the grasp of internal rules,finally forming their own singing and accompanying melodies.The singing and accompanying melodies after rhymes differ each time,and thus perpetuate the unique diversity of the living melodies of Nanyin ballads.
