The Spatiotemporal Evolution of the Dance on the Tray and Drum in Han Painting
The dance on the tray and drum depicted in Han painting is believed to have originated in the Chang'an and Gushi areas during the mid and late Western Han period, before gradually spreading to the Shangjun region in Bingzhou,as well as the Yanzhou,Qingzhou, and Xuzhou areas during the early Eastern Han period. It also developed rapidly in the Nanyang region of Jingzhou, the Shu region of Yizhou, and across various prefectures and counties nationwide during the mid and late Eastern Han.Through the intermingling of court female music and folk entertainment,it gave rise to a variety of dancer identities and bodily narratives. Its development at different stages and in different regions shows an overall consistency intermingled with local differences.
