Abstract
The inscriptions on the The Lotus Society scroll painting in the Freer Gallery of Art,by Li Chongyuan,Li Dongyang,Gao Shiqi,and others,were originally part of the unsigned The Lotus Society preserved in the Shanghai Museum.Due to the removal of the colophons,the scroll painting in the Shanghai Museum has lost essential information originally provided by its inscriptions.The scroll in the Freer collection is attributed to the Ming artist You Qiu.
