On the Translation Strategy of Humor-loaded Subtitles Take Hi,Mom as an Example
Subtitle translation is the main means for audiences to understand non-native films,and excellent subtitle translation has become an important way for overseas audiences to better understand Chinese films and Chinese culture.Subtitle translation has a lot in common with interpretation.Therefore,the sense-based theory,which originates from oral practice research and advocates breaking away from the shell of the source language,not only points out the principles and directions that translators should understand in the process of subtitle translation,but also allows translators to jump out of the constraints of specific translation strategies and flexi-bly adopt appropriate translation strategies according to specific situations,thus providing a new perspective and approach for subtitle translation.The humorous elements in Chinese comedic films reflect China's strong and distinctive national cultural characteristics,which is a difficult part for translators to deal with.This paper,based on the sense-based theory,uses the method of illustration to analyze the translation methods and strategies adopted by translators in translating subtitles containing humorous elements in the film Hi,Mom,and provides some inspiration for film subtitle translation and translation theory research.
