Situating Benjamin's Contribution to Immanent Critique in Critical Theory:A Review for The Concept of Criticism in German Romanticism
Immanent critique is the core methodology of critical theory.Walter Benjamin developed his own critical approach from the concept of artistic critique in the German Romanticism(Jena)and named it immanent critique. There is a close affinity between Benjamin's early immanent critique and the immanent critique as the core methodology of critical theory,in terms of their origins, paths of reflection, critical paradigms, and ultimate aims. The argument above can situate Benjamin's immanent critique in the history of critique and critical theory.Despite the lower attention given to Benjamin's dissertation compared to his later works due to various factors, the immanent critique, considering as an essential point, has consistently threaded through Benjamin's writings.
