Changes of the Story Writing for"the Punitive Expedition of King Wen of Zhou":From Praising Courage to Sacred Writing
King Wen of Zhou was a notable ancestor in the history of Zhou Dynasty and became an important part of the Confucian Orthodoxy.His rule,namely"the rule of King Wen of Zhou",was regarded as the benchmark by later Kings.Through a systematic review of the records related to the"the punitive expedition of King Wen of Zhou"in the documents of Pre-Qin and Han dynasties,it finds that there are more records about"the rule of King Wen of Zhou",and the writing about"the punitive expedition of King Wen of Zhou"only accounts for a small space.It can be found that the oracle bones of the Zhou Yuan have already contained the records of the punitive expedition.By the Eastern Zhou Dynasty,the stories of"the punitive expedition of King Wen of Zhou"recorded in historical documents were fundamentally modified to the king's virtuous treatment of the states and the initiative of the states to submit to him.By the time of the Han dynasties,people not only inherited the basic views of King Wen of Zhou's great virtue,but also further applied"the punitive expedition of King Wen of Zhou"into the writing of King Wen of Zhou's great virtue.In a word,the change of the story writing for"the punitive expedition of King Wen of Zhou"shows the process of the transformation during the Pre-Qin and Han dynas-ties.
