A Study on the Imitative Works of"Preface to the Pavilion of King Teng"In Late Qing and Republic of China Period Newspapers and Periodicals
During the late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China period,China followed the Western example by establishing news-papers and periodicals, which not only published political commentaries, global events, and commercial advertisements but also pub-lished old-style literature created by literati. There were numerous pieces of parallel prose published, but most were not original works;instead, they were imitations and parodies of classic texts.Among them, the imitations of Wang Bo's"Preface to the Pavilion of King Teng"were the most representative.Although these imitative works did not achieve artistic breakthroughs or innovations, they chronicled a new era, focused on new themes, criticized negative phenomena, and expanded the expressive realm of traditional old-style literature. They hold significant social recognition value and historical documentary significance.
