Recognition and Dissemination of Traditional Chinese Medicine Ginseng in Russia Before the 21st Century
Traditional Chinese medicine has always been an important part of Sino-Russian exchanges.From the 17th to the 20th century,influenced by the Sinomania in Europe and the local culture of China,Russia's understanding of the traditional Chinese medicine Ginseng went through three main stages:preliminary acquaintance by missionary groups,clinical trials by pharmacists,and widespread cultivation by the whole population.Thanks to its geographical advanta-ges,Russia has conducted research on Ginseng earlier than many other European countries and has a wide range of its applications.However,the studing on the dissemination history of Ginseng in Russia in the Chinese academic communi-ty is limited.By exploring the understanding and dissemination characteristics of Ginseng in Russia during various peri-ods since the exchange between China and Russia,the article intends to reveal the profound impact of traditional Chi-nese medicine on the Sino-Russian cultural exchange during its westward spread,and provide reference for the"going global"of traditional Chinese medicine culture.
