Experimental Study on Antitussive,Expectorant and Antiasthmatic Effects of Bashu Granules
Objective:To explore the antitussive, expectorant, and antiasthmatic effects of Bashu Granules. Methods:The antitussive effects of Bashu Granules were observed by citric acid induced cough test in guinea pigs and ammonia induced cough test in mice; The expectorant effects were observed using tracheal sputum excretion test in rats and tra-cheal phenol red secretion test in mice; The antiasthmatic effect was observed by the asthmatic test of acetylcholine chloride and histamine phosphate in guinea pigs. Results:Bashu Granules can significantly prolong the cough latency of guinea pigs and mice, reduce the cough frequency in guinea pigs and mice, and significantly increase the sputum output of rats and the secretion of phenol red in the trachea of mice.In the guinea pig asthma model induced by acetylcholine chloride and histamine phosphate, the asthma inducing latency of guinea pigs was significantly prolonged after adminis-tration,and the lung lesion score was significantly reduced. The histopathological examination showed that Bashu Gran-ules had significantly improved the inflammatory cell infiltration, congestion, alveolar dilatation, arterial hypertrophy and other lesions in the lung tissue of asthma model guinea pigs. Conclusion:Bashu Granules have obvious antitussive, expectorant, and asthma relieving effects.
