The Compatibility Between Marx's Ecological Thought and Chinese Traditional Ecological Philosophy
In Marx's ecological thought, perceptual practice is viewed as the pre-knowledge realm that creates and transforms realistic activities in the perceptual world, and the labor process is perceived as the material and energy exchange between human society and nature.Marx's ecological thought opposes the"natural extremity"advocated by the Deep Green movement and instead recognizes"natural limits";it opposes the Light Green movement's notion of"managing nature reasonably through the marketization of natural resources and technological innovation"and instead promotes building a"friendly relationship"between human beings and nature. The traditional Chinese ecological philosophy holds that all life forms in the universe constitute an interdependent and interrelated organic whole.Originating from the rural economy of the agricultural society, the traditional Chinese ecological philosophy is premised on men's dependence on nature. However, such a harmonious relationship needs to be reflected and adjusted in the subjective initiative manifested during modernization.Marx's ecological thought inherits and develops Chinese traditional ecological philosophy, which,in turn, can perfect and enrich Marx's ecological thought.
