Historically,Korea was significantly influenced by Chinese culture, nurturing a profound respect for it over time. The Ming Dynasty's assistance to Korea during the resistance against Japanese invasions, particularly during Emperor Wanli's reign, further reinforced their identification with and loyalty to the suzerain state. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, the border situation was complex and tumultuous.Korea's envoy,Li Yi,personally witnessed the military situation beyond the passes and meticulously recorded it in his diary. He also reported on the situation both within and beyond the passes to Korea, engaging in extensive correspondence with the top commanders of Liaodong.Documents including consultative papers and edicts from that time were also recorded in Korea's historical texts. This diary, recorded by Li Yi,who experienced the Ming-Later Jin Wars firsthand, along with the official documents contained in Korea's historical records, not only complements the gaps in Chinese historical literature but also helps clarify some historical truths that await resolution.
