Preparation and Clay Tolerance of Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer Containing Anti-Clay Functional Monomer
A novel anti-clay functional monomer(FM)is synthesized with polyethylene glycol 400(PEG400),and it is then introduced to polycarboxylate superplasticizer(PCE)molecule to prepare several anti-clay polycar-boxylate superplasticizers(AC-PCE).The FM and PCE samples are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry(FT-IR).The dispersing performance of the FM-containing PCE samples in the montmorillonite(MMT)-bearing cement pastes and cement mortars is studied through paste fluidity and mortar rheology respective-ly.The adsorption behavior of the PCE samples on MMT is also investigated. The results show that the AC-PCEs can lower the adsorption amount of PCE on MMT,inhibit the intercalation adsorption of MMT,decrease the fluidity loss of the MMT-bearing cement pastes and the yield stress of the MMT-bearing cement mortars compared with the FM-free polycarboxylate superplasticizer. It can thus be concluded that the AC-PCEs have a desirable clay toler-ance.
