Effect of Copper Sulfate on Germination and Seedling Growth of Black Bean Seeds
The effects of copper sulfate on seed germination, seedling growth, and physiological indexes of black bean were studied using hydroponics. The results indicate that high concentration of copper sulfate inhibits the ger-mination potential, germination rate, germination index, fresh weight, root length, and seedling height of black bean seeds. As the concentration of copper sulfate treatment increased,SOD activity in black bean seedlings in-creased,POD and CAT activities first increased first and then decreased,MDA content increased gradually, and soluble protein content initially increased first and subsequently decreased. In conclusion, the high concentration of copper sulfate changes the activity of antioxidant enzymes, significantly increases MDA content, and decreases solu-ble protein content, thereby inhibiting seed germination and seedling growth in black beans. The inhibition effect of copper sulfate on the roots of black bean seedlings is markedly stronger than on the ground parts.
