摘要

隐喻是一种重要的认知模式,我们语言中的许多概念都在很大程度上依赖于隐喻及其隐喻性扩展.“UP-DOWN”意象图式不仅可以表达“上—下”这一位置概念,还可以表达一些抽象概念,如:状态、数量、社会地位甚至是道德规范.对“UP-DOWN”意象图式隐喻意义的研究不仅在认知语言学方面具有理论意义,而且也 有一定的实际意义:可以帮助英语学习者更好地理解UP-DOWN意象图式的隐喻意义的扩展,更重要的是,可以大量地扩展自己的词汇认知范围.

Abstract

Metaphor is an important cognitive model,many concepts of language depends on the metaphor and metaphorical extension to a great extent.UP-DOWN Image schema can express not only the "concept",but also some abstract concepts such as:the state,quantity,social status and even moral rules.Research on the metaphor meaning of UP-DOWN image schema has not only theoretical significance of the cognitive linguistics,but also practical significance:to help English learners have a better understanding of the extension of metaphorical meaning of the image schema,what's more,to expand the scope of their lexical cognition largely.
