The Agentive Suffix in English and Its Counterparts in Chinese: A Comparative Analysis
A morpheme may contain five types of information: phonetic/phonological, lexical, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic information.A morphological analysis on the English agentive suffix ‘-er’ is carried out, and by a comparison with its correspondent morphemes in Chinese, the difference in representative level and the sameness in semantic level can be seen.
