On the Female Characters in Ivanhoe —— A Case Study on Their Gothic Features
"The woman in distress needing to be rescued" is one of the principle themes of Gothic fictions, which is particularly illustrated in Ivanhoe.Both suffering from patriarchy, women and nature develop an alliance against oppression of male, in which situation woman show their respect to nature and nature strengthens women.This study discuss two kinds of female protagonists: tragic heroine and prostitute in Ivanhoe, via which we can obtain a typical opinion about the female characters with Gothic features.
