An Analysis on the Symbolic Meanings in The Old Men and the Sea
The Old Men andthe Sea is a perfect masterpiece for Hemingway in his old age.By virtue of this work, he was awarded the 1953 Pulitzer Prize and the 1954 Nobel Prize for Literature.The novel uses a lot of symbols, which transform abstract things into concrete images to arouse the readers' emotion, soul and experience resonance, expressing profound implication.In the novel, the big marlin, the sea, the kid, lions, sharks and the old man have different symbolic meanings.By analyzing the six major symbols, this paper intends to explore the essence of this novd from six different angles so that one can understand the novel more deeply.The biggest innovation in this paper is that I took the symbolism as a breakthrough and gave an analytic understanding of this work from various angles, thus providing the readers with a new way to understand this famous work.
