Investigating Patterns and Reasons of Code-mixing in Hong Kong Cantonese-English
This paper focuses on the language shift phenomenon of code-mixing in the bilingual society-Hong Kong.As code-mixing is widespread among the interactions of Hong Kong people,it is necessary for investigating the practical situations related to relevant theories,as well as the reasons to explain such phenomenon explicitly.Judging from the statements and definitions of a few scholars,this paper regards that code-switching is different from code-mixing which Cantonese-English belongs to.The research aims at exploring the features of both major and minor code-mixing patterns.Based on the generalised features,this research continues to analyse the reasons for such form of code-mixing in Cantonese-English.Finally,this paper strives to shed light on second language learning.
