Corpus-based Analysis of Discursive Power in The Taming of the Shrew
The Taming of the Shrew is an early work of shakespeare in 1594,which enjoys a rip-roaring popularity up to date.Many scholars has scrutinized its text from sociological and stylistic points of view.However,few studies has investigated the relationship between language and power in this play from the perspectives of Systemic Functional Linguistics.This article aims to explore the relationship between Petruchio' s language and his taming activity of Katharina.Special attention would be given to the lexical cohesion in their dialogue before marriage and its sharp contrast to that after the accomplishment of taming.In this article,quantitative analysis will be carried out display how Petruchio reinforce his power upon Katharina thwugh dominating the dialogue.
