摘要
设置于维多利亚社会背景之下,英国女作家萨拉·沃特斯的小说《荆棘之城》(另译《指匠情挑》)故事情节错综复杂,布满阴谋,尤其在女性角色中充满了欺骗.Sucksby夫人策划了整个骗局,由所谓的“Gen-tleman”具体实施,而Sue和Maud参与整个充满谎言的阴谋,甚至她们自己身份本身也是一个大骗局.直到故事结尾时,真相大白.小说其实是三位女性的自我探寻旅程,在经历了所有的阴谋骗局后她们找到了真正的自己和自己想要的生活.
Abstract
Set in Victorian society,Sarah Waters wrote a novd with all intricate plots and twisting schemes,which abounds with deceptions among women characters.Mrs.Sucksby plotted the entire cheating scheme which was carried out by the so-called Gentleman with both Sue and Maud playing their parts without knowing anything even their true identities.Twisted with lies,the truth wasn' t disclosed until the end.The whole story actually is a self-exploring journey of women characters.After walking out of all the deceptions,they find out who they are and what life they want.
