Pragmatics Teaching: To Improve Students' Involvement, Understanding and Awareness by Designing Supplementary Activities——Taking Teaching Speech Act of Requests in the Chinese EFL Classroom as an Example
This paper is to analyze how request as a speech act is taught through activities in a textbook and how can the process of teaching be improved in the EFL classroom in Mainland China,using one unit in an English textbook adapted from Grade eight of the People' s Edition Publishing House (PEP).Through analyzing and evaluating the structure,content and underlying rationale of the activities,the author come up with two supplementary activities including a role-play and a video-watching activity to better students' involvement in the communicative activities and understanding of the target knowledge.
