Historical Truth and Artistic Truth:Re-reading Yang Chen-yin's Diary
The famous author Yang Chen-yin has written a large number of works in his life,and has an important position in the history of modern Chinese literature,but the research on him has not been given corresponding attention.The 1919 diary manuscript of Yang Chen-yin in the Harvard-Yenching Library records more than ten of his works,including the Minchao Qiri Ji,which has long been regarded as an important historical source of the May Fourth Movement.This diary-style documentary literary work written by first-hand witness Yang Chen-yin has not yet been studied in a literary context.Based on a close reading of his 1919 diary,the article provides a literary interpretation of the book in terms of the creative process,narrative perspective,writing attitude,and artistic expression and explores the unity of historical truth and artistic truth in Yang's writing.
