A Study of the One Unanthologized Letter Written by Yu Yue in the Collection of the Russian State Library
There is a letter from Yu Yue to his student Xu Qi in the collection of Letters and Poems of Ming and Qing Famous Masters in the Oriental Literature Center of the Russian State Library.The rele-vant collection of letters has not been published in the past,and can be read in conjunction with Yu Yue's other letters and poems.After investigation,it has been found that this work was written on December 21,1891 in the lunar calendar,in the 17th year of the Guangxu reign.The content mainly involves the po-etry and poetry singing between Yu Yue and his student Xu Qi,as well as the publication of works and daily household affairs.It reflects Yu Yue's profound academic cultivation,contradictory writing ideas,his later life interests,and peaceful attitude towards life.It also reflects the strong friendship between a gen-eration of Confucian scholars and his students under the special cultural background of the late Qing Dy-nasty.This letter provides new historical materials for studying Yu Yue's literary views,the publication of Yu Yue's works,and the lives of scholars in the late Qing Dynasty.
