Based on the systematic nature of language,in generally,the distribution of different meanings of polysemous words are different.Therefore,investigating the distribution of the different meanings of polysemous words is helpful to resolve disputes in the explanations of ancient texts,enabling to grasp the original meaning of classics more accurate.By investigating the distribution of the meanings,three contentious words in The Book of Lord Shang are explained.Dao(道)of the shi suowei yi zhe,bao zhi dao ye(世所谓义者,暴之道也)should be explained as"method"or"reason".Yi(意)of the yi min zhi qing(意民之情)should be explained as"estimate".Ji(几)of the yi bu ji hu(亦不几乎)may be more appropriate to be read as 冀.
