Application Value of Iterative Decomposition of Water and Fat with Echo Asymmetric and Least-squares Estimation in Shoulder MRI Scanning
Objective:To explore the feasibility of iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetric and least-squares estimation(IDEAL)in shoulder MRI,and compare it with the traditional frequency selective fat suppression(Fat)technology. Methods:Twenty patients who underwent shoulder MRI scanning in the Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University from July 2023 to November 2023 were selected as the research objects. Both Fat and IDEAL were applied in MRI shoulder scanning.According to the scoring criteria, two groups of MRI images were evaluated by two radiologists qualitatively(magnetic sensitivity artifacts, motion artifact, fat suppression effect, and overall image quality)and quantitatively(SNR of supraspinatus, head of humerus and deltoid muscles,CNR1 of supraspinatus, head of humerus, and CNR2 of deltoid and head of humeral). Results:Qualitative analysis:the IDEAL group images were superior to the Fat group images in terms of magnetic sensitivity artifact, fat suppression effect and overall image quality, while the motion artifact scores were lower than the Fat group(all P<0.05).Quantitative analysis:SNR and CNR values of the regions of interest(ROIs)in the IDEAL group were significantly higher than those in the Fat group(all P<0.05).Conclusion:Compared with Fat,IDEAL can significantly reduce magnetic sensitive artifacts, obtain better image quality and suppression effect, and it is more sen-sitive to motion artifact in terms of shoulder MRI scanning.
