Research Progress of piRNA/PIWI in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma
piRNA is a small single-stranded RNA,its 5'end contains a single phosphate group and strong uracil bias, and its 3'end 2-OH is methylated. It usually binds to members of the PIWI protein family to exert regulatory functions. Many studies have shown that the expression changes of piRNA/PIWI in a variety of malignant tumors indicate different clinical results, which may be used as a potential biomarker or therapeutic target in the development of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. In view of the functional significance of piRNA/PIWI in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is still unknown, this article reviews the biological function of piRNA/PIWI and its role in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, aiming to open up new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma,in order to achieve early detection and treatment intervention of tumors.
