The Mechanism of 27-hydroxycholesterol in Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer's disease is a highly age-related disease, and many factors such as genetics and other metabolic diseases are involved in its pathophysiological process. So far,the specific pathological mechanism of AD has not been clarified, but mining the potential etiology of AD has never stopped.Recent studies have found that hypercholesterolemia accelerates the pathological process of AD,and peripheral cholesterol is a biological macromolecular that cannot cross the blood-brain barrier.Among the pathogenic molecules of AD,serum cholesterol metabolite 27 hydroxycholesterol can flow into the brain from the periphery and participate in the occurrence and development of AD in the brain,so targeting 27-hydroxycholesterol may be a new anti-AD therapy. This article aims to review 27-hydroxycholesterol and its possible involvement in the process of AD,in order to provide a basis for the study of the pathological mechanism of AD,and to open up new ideas for the development of anti-AD drugs.
