Recent Research on Ferroptosis in Age-related Macular Degeneration
With the popularity of electronic products and the improvement of people's living standards in recent years,age-related macular degeneration(AMD)has become one of the three major blinding eye diseases in China.The incidence of AMD is increasing year by year,which seriously affects people's vision and quality of life.Although studies have shown that its occurrence may be related to factors such as genetics,oxidative stress,choroidal vascular dysfunction,and inflammatory response,the specific pathogenesis is still unclear.Ferroptosis is a newly discovered way of cell death in recent years.Studies at home and abroad have reported its possible correlation with the occurrence and development of AMD.Intervention of ferroptosis pathway has become a potential strategy for the treatment of AMD.This article reviews the role of retinal iron metabolism and ferroptosis in the pathogenesis of AMD in recent years,as well as the currently known treatment methods,in order to provide a new focus for the treatment of AMD.
