An Analysis of Narrative Paintings from Du Fu's Poetry:Focusing on the Paintings in Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum
As for the concept of narrative painting,there are some differences between China and the West,but there is a certain consensus in its narrative techniques,educational functions and picture-text relations.After clarifying the concept,category and function of narrative painting,by conducting a detailed analysis of the textual sources,artist groups and creative reasons,the relationship between material selection and form,and the evolution of artistic techniques of Du Fu's narrative paintings that flourished from the Ming and Qing dynasties to modern times,the graphic and textual relationships of Du Fu's narrative paintings were further clarified.Du Fu's narrative painting is an artistic display of the content of Du Fu's narrative poetry as the source of the text.It is the artist's reception and dissemination of Du Fu's narrative poetry;at the same time,viewers can deepen their understanding of the content of Du Fu's poetry and the social reality of the Tang Dynasty reflected in it through narrative illustrations,appreciate Du Fu's saintly and benevolent heart,and deepen their understanding of the relationship between text and images.
