Questionnaire survey on the knowledge and beliefs of nursing staff in the intensive care unit on the preven-tion of swallowing dysfunction after extubation of patients with tracheal intubation
Objective This study aimed to analyse the results of a survey on the Knowledge and Assurance Practice(KAP)for swallowing dysfunction prevention after extubation in patients with tracheal intubation by nursing staff in the intensive care unit, and to analyse the factors influencing KAP.Methods By means of electronic questionnaire, purposive sampling method was used to select hospital ICU nursing staff in June-August 2022 as the study cohort. The sample size was calculated according to the number of questionnaire entries multiplied by 5~10 times to extract the hospital ICU nursing staff on the prevention of KAP questionnaire for PSD in patients with tracheal intubation, and the factors affecting the preven-tion of KAP for swallowing dysfunction by ICU nursing staff were ana-lyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis methods. Results A total of 316 ICU nursing staff questionnaires were included for anal-ysis,and the ICU nursing staff's knowledge score(67.02±11.30),at-titude score(34.67±6.10),and behavior score(43.96±8.76)for PSD prevention in patients with tracheal intubation. There were significant differences between ICU nurses of different genders, education lev-els,hospital levels, and the identification of specialist nurses on the dimension of PSD prevention for tracheal intubated patients(P<0.05).There were statistically significant differences in the dimension of PSD prevention for tracheal intubated patients by ICU nurses of different ages and titles(P<0.05).The results of multiple linear re-gression analysis showed that educational qualifications had an impact on the knowledge and attitude of tracheal intubation PSD pre-vention among ICU nursing staff, and the ICU nursing staff titles had an impact on their behaviour(P<0.05).Conclusion ICU nursing staff have a certain level of knowledge about PSD prevention in patients with tracheal intubation, but the degree of recognition and participation needs to be improved.Managers should focus on strengthening the training of nursing staff on PSD prevention related to tracheal intubation patients, clarifying the operation process of swallowing function prevention, and increasing the degree of atten-tion.
