Advances in the mechanism of lipophagy in diabetic nephropathy
Diabetic nephropathy(DN)is a major cause of the progression to end-stage renal disease in patients with diabetes mellitus.Lipid metabolic disorder and ectopic deposition of renal lipids are the key pathological factors of diabetic nephropathy and progression of DN.Lipophagy is a newly discovered form of selective autophagy that degrades lipid droplets stored in cells through lyso-somal-mediated degradation, thereby alleviating lipid deposition and maintaining energy metabolism homeostasis.Existing evidence suggests that the activation of lipophagy can reduce lipotoxicity and renal injury in DN,making it a new target for DN research. This ar-ticle mainly reviews the progress of lipophagy pathway, main regulatory factors and its mechanism in DN.
