Objective:The social support,coping style and mental health of police in a city of Jiangsu Province were investi-gated to explore the influence of social support and coping style on the mental health of police,and provide targeted scientific basis for the psychological services of police.Methods:By multistage random stratified sampling method,288 police officers were select-ed in Jiangsu Province,and Social Support Rate Scale,Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire and Symptom Check-list 90 were used for questionnaires,and descriptive statistics,correlation analysis and mediation test were conducted.Results:Total mental health score and each dimension were negatively correlated with total social support score and each dimension(r=-0.721,-0.335,P<0.01)and positive coping style(r=-0.855,-0.553,P<0.01)and positively associated with negative coping style(r=0.422,0.722,P<0.01).Under the demographic variables controlling for gender,age,educational level,marital status,and police age,positive coping style was fully mediated between social support and mental health(SE=-0.163,P<0.001),negative coping style had no significant mediation between social support and mental health(SE=-0.013,P>0.05).Conclusion:Social support can have an impact on the mental health of police through positive coping,but not on the mental health of police through negative cop-ing.Local public security organs should also pay attention to the training of their active response methods when promoting the mental health of the police by improving the level of social support.
