Objective:To analyze the impact of long-term care insurance system on the utilization of medical services of the elderly in China,and to provide policy recommendations for improving the long-term care insurance system.Methods:The re-search methodology used in this paper is multi-temporal difference-in-differences model,using older adults from China health and retirement longitudinal study 2015-2020 follow-up survey as study participants,with the number of outpatient visits and the num-ber of hospital admissions as the measurements.Stata 17.0 is used to analyze medical utilization among the elderly,and the hetero-geneity at the level of age,place of residence and educational level is analyzed.Results:The results of multi-temporal difference-in-differences model indicated that the number of outpatient visits of the elderly in China showed a significant decrease after the im-plementation of long-term care insurance system(β=-0.323,P=0.086),and the number of hospitalizations did not change sig-nificantly(β=0.082,P=0.618).Moreover,the decline in the number of outpatient visits was heterogeneous across residence,age,and educational level.Conclusion:Long-term care insurance system can reduce the utilization of medical services of the eld-erly in China to a certain extent.It is recommended that the long-term care insurance system should continue to be promoted and the targeted system should be designed based on population characteristics.
