Objective:To explore the perception of medical assistance policies and the policy protection status among recipi-ents in Guizhou Province,so as to provide insights for improving medical assistance policies. Methods:From December 2022 to February 2023,semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with medical assistance recipients of varying backgrounds. The transcribed texts were analyzed using content analysis with MAXQDA 22 software. Results:Among the 15 interviewees,10(66.7%)faced dual pressures of significant disease burden and poor economic conditions. The perception of medical assistance pol-icies was generally low for those interviewees.Nine respondents(60.0%)reported that out-of-pocket expenses after insurance re-imbursement were still high, exceeding their family's financial capacity.Despite this,11 respondents(73.3%)gave a positive o-verall evaluation of the medical assistance and basic medical insurance system, though they indicated there was room for enhance-ment.Conclusion:Medical assistance recipients in Guizhou Province have strong needs for more flexible assistance options, better policy awareness through expanded promotion, and enhanced supervision and management. It is recommended that medical assis-tance focus on long-term family or personal improvement, offer flexible employment opportunities for recipients with work capacity, and strengthening policy promotion through schools and communities.Additionally, medical institutions should be encouraged and supervised to use more cost-effective drugs and treatments, while promoting voluntary contributions from recipients.
