Analysis of a Decade of Visits to the Oncology Psychology Outpatient Department in a Beijing Cancer Hospital
This study retrospectively analyzes the composition of patients,the characteristics of patients,and outpatient prescriptions in the Department of Psycho-oncology of Peking University Cancer Hospital&Institute from 2010 to 2019.Over the decade,there were 37,885 patient visits to the oncology psychology outpatient department,with the annual number of visits increasing each year,exceeding the outpatient growth rate of the hospital.The top five common cancers among the outpatient population were lung cancer,breast cancer,rectal cancer,colon cancer and stomach cancer.The proportion of breast cancer decreased,and the proportion of lung cancer and gastrointestinal cancer increased.The proportion of patients seeking treatment for pain gradually increased.The prescription of analgesic drugs combined with psychiatric medications was very high,rising from 84.4%to 91.8%.Medicines with an effect on insomnia were used more often than other medicines,the proportion was 35.9%.The demand for oncology psychology services from cancer patients continues to increase,and the oncology psychology outpatient department has advantages in managing symptoms such as pain.
