The Transformation of Doctor-patient Relationship under the Influence of Social Medicalization
The medicalization of society is primarily manifested in two domains:the medicalization of the body, which brings various bodily repair procedures, and the medicalization of life, resulting in the proliferation of"disease mongering".The medicalization of the body pathologizes and individualizes social problems, while the individualization of health issues further promotes the de-familialization of the body. The"disease mongering"movement may lead to a situation where society enters a state of"eventually every well person would be labeled sick".In response to the phenomenon of the medicalization of society, while preventing excessive medicalization, the"commodification"of the doctor-patient relationship should be prevented. This involves shifting from a paternalistic medical model into a democratic medical model, adapting to the trend of transferring power to patients, establishing equal doctor-patient relationships, and addressing the emotional needs of patients.
