Capabilities and Boundaries of Carebots in Elderly Care
Carebots play a positive role in the healthcare field, alleviating the conflict between the increase of the elderly population and the shortage of caregivers, providing high-quality care for the elderly in the state of social isolation, and also raising concerns that robots may replace human caregivers.Care,as a fundamental ethical value in caring,is analyzed from the perspectives of Tronto's"care as an activity",Held's"care as a value",and Vanlaere's"care as a response",demonstrating that current carebots lack the ability to provide care in the human sense.Carebots are regarded as important companions in the life journey of the elderly. There are three boundaries in the future development of carebots:delineating the scope of human-robot care, embedding ethical values of care, and advancing personalized care.
