A Qualitative Study of Motivation and Influencing Factors for Oncology Patients Participating in Clinical Trials of Drugs
This study explored the motivation and influencing factors of oncology patients to participate in drug clinical trials.A descriptive qualitative research method was used to conduct in-depth interviews with 16 oncology patients who participated in drug clinical trials, and the interview data were collated and analyzed using content analysis. Two main themes were identified:motivation for participation(including hope for new drug treatment, doctor's suggestion to participate in drug clinical trials, reducing financial burden, and contributing to society),and influencing factors(including opposition from family and close friends, concern about treatment effects, fear of adverse drug reactions, lack of knowledge related to drug clinical trials, and inconvenience of time and transportation). Therefore, researchers should take the patient's perspective, enhance communication, avoid therapeutic misunderstandings, help patients make rational decisions about participation, and reduce the obstacles to patient participation in order to facilitate subject recruitment.
