Health Equity:Biases and Governance in Medical Artificial Intelligence
Health equity refers to the equal access and distribution of health opportunities and resources for all individuals, regardless of personal characteristics or social status.Artificial intelligence(AI)technology has the potential to enhance the achievement of health equity.Medical AI can enable more accurate, efficient, and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, providing fairer healthcare services to patients. However, medical AI may also pose potential fairness issues,as certain groups may be unable to access equitable health opportunities and resource allocation, leading to a worsening of health inequalities and disadvantaged groups not receiving the necessary health security and resources.Ensuring the diversity and representativeness of training data for medical AI,as well as strengthening the supervision and review of algorithms, are important methods to guarantee fairness in medical AI.By eliminating biases, medical AI can promote the process of health equity.
