Ableism,as a traditional understanding of disability, establishes a rigid link between impairment and disability.Disability is a state of impairment of a person's normal physical or mental structure or functioning, which directly results in limitations in the activities and lives of disabled individuals. However, does impairment entail disability?By analyzing the ableism, this paper examines the concept of normality from the perspective of philosophy of medicine which gives us chance to re-examine the relationship between impairment and disability and try to put forward a new perspective based on the framework of feasible capabilities to understand disability issues better and to achieve the goal of removing barriers for disabled individuals. It will provide a more solid philosophical support for the identity recognition of disabled individuals and the establishment a constructive relationship between disabled and non-disabled population.
