Perception and Imagination of"Qi"by French TCM Scholar Sylvie Martin Hu
Contemporary French Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)scholar Sylvie Martin Hu has a profound understanding of TCM culture, and is committed to inheriting classical acupuncture and promoting the study and development of TCM in Western society. In her book La médecine chinoise(translated as Chinese Medicine),she equates"Qi"with energy, integrating theories such as the Triple Burner Theory,Five Elements Theory,Eight Extra Meridians,Twelve Regular Meridians, and Ying Qi and Wei Qi theory,to construct the human energy system for the generation, distribution and utilization of energy. At the same time, she proposes the view that the ultimate goal of treatment is to restore the balance of human energy, considering not only the psychological and physical pathogenic factors but also the influence of the soul on the body and mind. The diverse interpretations of TCM by Western scholars have made TCM a global medicine and a source of medical innovation, with practical significance for the overseas dissemination and modern innovation of TCM.
