A Qualitative Study on the Joys and Concerns of Patient Peer Support
The study investigated patient peer support through methods such as participatory field observation, qualitative interviews, and grounded theory. The research found that,on one hand, peer support networks serve as a"win-win"social support model, yielding positive effects among many patient groups with various conditions. These networks become emotional anchors among patients, aiding in easing tense doctor-patient relationships, enhancing patients'connections to society, and improving the mental, physical, and social well-being of both patients and their caregivers. On the other hand, there are instances of behaviors breaching the boundaries of peer support, causing emotional and financial harm to patients. In some cases, individuals may even find themselves engaged in illegal activities due to excessive assistance provided.
