A Corpus-based Study on the Three Translators'Style of On Cold Damage
The academic community believes that the English translation course of On Cold Damage can be divided into three major stages.The paper selects representative excerpts from the translations of Luo Xiwen,Nigel Wiseman,and Liu Guohui in each of the three phases of the English translation of On Cold Damage to build a bilingual corpus,and with the help of the tools of Antconc and Wordsmith,depicts and statistically analyzes the style of the translators at the lexical and syntactic levels of the translated text.The study also integrates the dimensions of historical background,translators'identities,and translation philosophies to investigate the differences in translator styles.The research finds that the representative translators in the three phases of English translation of this text exhibit certain regularities in terms of tokens,types,the lexical density,average sentence length and other aspects.These regularities are closely related to the translation environment and translation philosophies of the translators in their respective eras.
