Entanglement of Beliefs and Perceptions:Embodied Feelings of Acupuncture Patients in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture patients'feelings and beliefs are intertwined throughout every stage of the process:before acupuncture, patients may not recognize the combination of their mind and body, and while experiencing various physical discomforts, they may not have a clear understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)acupuncture.During treatment, patients experience a sense of immersion, with sensations such as heaviness, swelling, soreness, and numbness guiding their understanding of Qi flow. After acupuncture, patients'physical sensations return, creating a body memory that prompt reflection on changes in beliefs during treatment. Thus, pain awakens the patient's awareness of his or her own body and brings his or her physical presence back into the world;when experiencing Qi flow, the integrity of the body is revealed, and the intercorporeality is confirmed between the patient and the practitioner. This bodily recognition fosters patients'acceptance of TCM acupuncture, further promoting the dissemination of Chinese medicine.
