Ethical Reflection on the Incentive Mechanism for Organ Donations from Deceased Donors
In the context of the currently low donation rates in China, the purely voluntary mechanism is insufficient to increase the donation rates, and an incentive mechanism for organ donation from deceased donors needs to be introduced. However, there are still some ethical controversies involved in the incentive mechanism for organ donation, which have not been widely accepted by the public, and therefore hinders their broader implementation. In this context,it is crucial to provide ethical justification for incentive mechanisms.Meanwhile, establishing an organ donation system that primarily focuses on voluntary donations, with compensation as a supplement, combined with various incentive mechanisms, utilizing social forces, innovating public education methods, and improving the coordinator teams in hospitals may be effective ways to improve public perception of body and organ donation, create a suitable ethical environment, and increase the donation rate.
