Voluntary Mutual Assistance and Health Empowerment Processes in Patient Self-Organization:Take the H Self-organization of Cancer Patients in Beijing for Example
Long-term field observations and ethnographic studies have been conducted on voluntary mutual assistance among patients and their health-empowering processes in cancer self-organizations.This study found that cancer patient self-organization is an important approach and practice space for health empowerment following diagnosis.Voluntary mutual assistance among patients fostered the development of their health decision-making ability,enhanced their disease management ability,and facilitated psychological reconstruction and social adaptation through the reconstruction of self-efficacy.The health empowerment process in cancer self-organizations helped cancer patients achieve the goals of improving disease outcomes and quality of life.Throughout this process,they continuously practiced a journey of empowerment from being passive recipients of healthcare to becoming active agents of their own health.
