Abstract

Objective To study the changes in main reporting directions, countries, and publishing institutions before and after the renaming of Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance,so as to provide reference for domestic peers. Methods It mainly utilized the co-word network function of CiteSpace to analyze the changes in reporting directions, publishing countries, and publishing institutions of the journal. The data were obtained from the SCI Extended Edition of the Web of Science core collection, with the retrieval title of"Aviation Space and Environmental Medicine",covering the period from January 1,1991 to December 31,2014.Non-academic literatures such as call for papers and conference notices were excluded.NoteExpress software was used for deduplication, with a total of 4 830 articles. The journal was renamed"Aerospace Medicine and Human Performance"in 2015,and the time span of retrieval was from January 1,2015 to June 13,2023.The data cleaning method was the same as before, and a total of 1 076 articles were retrieved. Results ① Main contributors:Before the renaming, the main contributors were U.S.Air Force(160 articles),U.S.Department of Defense(93 articles),and National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA,77 articles). After the renaming, there were no changes in the main contributors, but the number of publications decreased compared with that before the renaming. The U.S.Air Force contributed 47 articles, the U.S.Department of Defense contributed 24 articles, and NASA contributed 24 articles.②Comparison of main keywords:After the renaming, the connection strength between main keywords and flight and aerospace significantly increased, while the attention to general health issues was relatively decreased, with the emergence of contents directly related to flight behaviors such as spaceflight and air travel.③Main countries:Before the renaming,USA published 2 411 articles(49.91%),Canada published 314 articles(6.50%),UK published 279 articles(5.77%),France published 167 articles(3.45%),and Germany published 160 articles(3.31%).After the renaming,USA published 501 articles(46.56%),UK published 98 articles(9.10%),China published 54 articles(5.01%),Canada published 53 articles(4.92%),and France published 42 articles(3.90%).④Annual average number of publications:According to the search results, there were a total of 24 years before the renaming, with an average of 201 articles per year. After the renaming, there were a total of 8.5 years from January 1,2015 to June 13,2023,with an average of 127 articles per year and a significant decrease in annual reporting volume.⑤Impact factor:As of 2014,a total of 164 articles were published before the renaming, with an impact factor of 1.005 1(including self-cited).In 2016,it was the first year that statistical data such as impact factor were available after the renaming of the journal.A total of 132 articles were published, with an impact factor of 0.825 0.In 2022,109 articles were published, with an impact factor of 1.000 1(including self-cited).Considering the number of publications and impact factor, the comprehensive influence of the journal did not significantly improve after the renaming. Conclusion After the renaming of the journal, the coverage of the impact of flight environment has decreased, with the main discussion scope focusing on space flight from all previous flight types. The coverage of the impact of flight behaviors on human health and performance has significantly increased, while the discussion of the impact of flight equipment on flight safety has also increased. With the progress of aerospace technology and the development of aviation equipment,it is necessary to delve deeper into the impact of environmental factors on the long-term composite effects of the human body in aviation activities. After the renaming of the journal,China ranks third in terms of the number of articles published, which also indicates the outflow of high-quality original achievements to a certain extent.Under the premise of adhering to the original characteristics of journals,Chinese periodicals should keep pace with the times and explore sustainable publishing models according to the development of research in the field. It is necessary to further clarify the positioning and service objects of journals, take the major national needs as the guidance, focus on the frontiers and hotspots in the aerospace field, adjust column settings in a timely manner, enhance the academic quality and discipline influence of journals, and create a high-quality academic exchange platform.
