Objective To explore the effect of square dance on lumbar spine bone mineral density(LBMD)in postmenopausal women of different ages,so as to provide reference basis for guiding square dance to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Methods This study was designed as a prospective cohort study, recruiting 250 postmenopausal middle-aged and elderly women in Xi'an,including 170 in the square dance group and 80 in the non-exercise group. The square dance group maintained the exercise habit of square dance, while the non-exercise group maintained the exercise habit of not exercising.LBMD testing was performed on both groups after 6 months. The interaction between square dance and age classification(45-65 years old and>65 years old)on LBMD was analyzed by likelihood ratio test, and the confounding factors between square dance group and non-exercise group in age subgroup were corrected by propensity score matching. Finally, the effects of square dance on LBMD in postmenopausal women of different ages were analyzed by corrected matching data. Results Among postmenopausal women aged 45-65 years old,the mean LBMD measured in the square dance group was higher than that in the non-exercise group after 6 months, and the differences between groups were statistically significant(P=0.006).Among postmenopausal women aged>65 years old, there was no statistically significant difference in the mean LBMD between the square dance group and the non-exercise group after 6 months(P=0.149).Conclusion Square dance is effective in improving LBMD in middle-aged postmenopausal women aged 45-65 years old,but not in elderly postmenopausal women aged>65 years old.
