Sirtuin 3(Sirt3)is a nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide-dependent deacetylatase that is mainly involved in mitochondrial metabolic processes such as energy synthesis,tricarboxylic acid cycling,and oxidative stress.More scientific studies have confirmed that Sirt3 has the functions of anti-oxidative stress,anti-apoptosis and maintenance of metabolic homeostasis,and plays an important role in energy metabolism,tumors,aging and other processes.Recent studies have found that in neurodegenerative diseases,Sirt3 activation can slow down or inhibit mitochondrial dysfunction,thus showing a significant neuroprotective effect.This paper reviews the protective role of Sirt3 in neurodegenerative diseases and its possible mechanisms.
